In the Focus Gallery the Gallery Underground presents Water, a solo show of large-scale acrylics by artist Barry Barnett Keith.

"Water is the theme I chose because not only do many of the paintings contain water, but also water is a symbol for me of striving for constant production and creativity, of living and breathing art for as long as possible. Producing art allows an artist to exist in a world away from the mundane, away from hatred and bigotry."

Keith is a native of Alexandria, VA and a product of Alexandria City Public Schools. He began drawing Marvel and DC comics superheroes at a very early age for friends in grade school. After graduating from TC Williams High School in 1978, Keith went on to the University of Delaware art school, where he majored in Painting, Drawing and English. Keith developed a drawing style over the years by producing portraits for local patrons, but landscapes are his first and continuing love. Keith's goal in landscape painting is to translate what he sees and have the painting be indicative of the medium, rather than a photographic picture with brushes. Keith has taught the arts in the Prince Georges County Maryland Public School system for the past 15 years. He is presently Lead Art Teacher at Mattaponi Elementary School in Upper Marlboro Maryland and Rose Valley Elementary School in Fort Washington, MD.

In the Main Gallery are new works by our members in all themes, in media including oil, acrylic, pastel, watermedia, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and metalwork.
