“Wavves” by JD Deardourff transforms the Mount Vernon Trail entrance at Water Park

Spanning 245 linear feet and ranging from one to 14 feet in height, the newly unveiled mural "Wavves" by artist JD Deardourff has brought a splash of color and joy to National Landing.

Sponsored by the National Landing Business Improvement District, the expansive mural enlivens the area, adorning the southern and western facing walls at the entrance to the Mount Vernon Trail, near Water Park on Crystal Drive.

The mural extends a warm welcome to residents, workers and visitors, transforming one of National Landing’s most prominent centers into a vibrant gateway connecting bikers and pedestrians to nature and the regional trail system.

Brandon Hill's 'Oz and Kansas' Adorns Transitway Station Encasements

In collaboration with Arlington County's Department of Transportation and the National Landing BID, Brandon Hill’s "Oz & Kansas" enhances the public space while construction on the Transitway Extension continues. These pieces mark the second implementation of the BID’s forthcoming Placemaking Toolkit, a guide designed to help the community and stakeholders execute placemaking interventions in accessible public spaces. This project is a testament to how creative partnerships can transform ordinary infrastructure into spaces of imagination and engagement.

Crystal City Metro Station Activation

As part of WMATA's exciting Art in Transit Program, experience the vibrant artwork of artists Emily Fussner and Stephanie Lane in a pop-up exhibition at the Crystal City Metro, on view now through summer 2025.  The installation, a collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (MoCA)  and sponsored by the National Landing BID, adorns the four-foot construction panels surrounding the station’s entrance escalators.
