Join us on Sunday after lunch (or bring a picnic and eat with us!) for a free pop-up playtime at Virginia Highlands Park at 1600 S. Hayes St. (in the part of the park near the Aurora Highlands Library)!
There will be a nature dough activity, an autumn craft project and a treasure hunt set up for all ages of children in your family. There will be nature treasures (pumpkins, gourds, sunflowers and even a few cute little surprises!) hidden around the park, so that your children can to see how many they can locate, perhaps keeping a running tally as they hunt, if you’d like to bring along a note pad and pencil. Please leave the treasures where they are found however, so that other little friends can enjoy seeking them as well.
Kindly, bring your picnic blanket, so your children can easily socially distance while working on their activities, and have only a masked adult retrieve items from the table, and all mask if you are going to potentially be up close with anyone else, to ensure all families can safely participate comfortably no matter the health status of their household members. If you have infants or tots too young to mask properly, please simply ensure you keep a minimum of 6 feet from others, as not everyone is comfortable being close to unvaccinated persons, even the tiny, cute ones. Families need not mask while seated together on their blankets, however since those will be at least 6 ft apart already, or if they are able to maintain appropriate social distancing- just ensure you are careful because you never know what health problems others are facing, since not all risk factors are visible. ❤️
Pop-up playtimes will be held within the park during what will be the fall class times all this week, weather permitting, however on Sunday, since it’s the weekend, the pop-up playtime will run the entire afternoon 1-4PM. The other pop-up play times will be this week- Mon 9AM, Tues 10AM, Wed 11AM and 4PM, Thurs 9:30, Fri 11:30AM and Sat 10AM.
Tinkergarten classes will start October 1st in this park and enrollment is underway currently. Note that while necessary background checks, park use reservations, and insurance all run through Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation, Tinkergarten.com handles all class enrollment. Minimum class enrollment must be met at least four days prior to each class start date, so if you’re seeking a covid-safe, outdoor exploration, creativity, early-literacy-supporting way for your child to gain social skills and have a blast, please come have some fun at a pop-up playtime and consider signing up for the season. For those who were uncomfortable returning to in-person indoor learning for this school year, Tinkergarten provides a unique outdoor alternative, that allows parents, grandparents, nannies or au pairs to enjoy classes with the children they love in the safest possible way, outside together.
Additionally, a thoughtful one of your neighbors has offered to scholarship a child’s tuition for Tinkergarten for the fall season, so if it’s not financially in reach for you right now, please do not hesitate to contact your local leader to inquire about enrolling. If you have any questions, please contact your local Tinkergarten leader at https://tinkergarten.com/leaders/laura.holman
There are sample recordings of classes provided on the website, if you’d like to check out the format and types of activities provided for families during the classes as well. Hope to see your family tomorrow or later in the week for some outdoor fun!
