Food connects us all.
Come to Aurora Hills Library to discover the connection between your local community and the Quechua people in the Andes, and to follow a staple grain from production to consumption.
Linda J. Seligmann, an Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at George Mason University, will discuss the impact of global demand for quinoa on the culture, development, and agrarian lives of Quechua quinoa cultivators in the Andes. She is a specialist in Latin America with research interests in agrarian issues, political economy, informal economies, and the dynamics of gender, class, and ethnicity, especially in the Andean region. Her research for her latest book, "Quinoa: Food Politics and Agrarian Life in the Andean Highlands," has inspired this talk.
Light refreshments will be served.
REGISTRATION RECOMMENDED. By registering you will receive event updates.
