CRYSTAL CITY BID TO HOST FIFTH ANNUAL CROSSHAIRS GARAGE RACES

The Region’s Only Underground Bike Race moves to Saturdays in March

CRYSTAL CITY, VA – February 28, 2019 – The Crosshairs Garage Races will return to the underground parking garage at 201 12th Street South in Crystal City every Saturday this March. Registration opened on February 15th for the series, which has been held on Wednesday evenings for the last four years.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Crosshairs Garage Races has moved to Saturdays this year to accommodate its growing popularity,” says Tracy Gabriel, President and Executive Director of the Crystal City Business Improvement District, one of the sponsors of the series, along with JBG SMITH and Amazon. “This is a uniquely “Crystal City” event that highlights our commitment to cycling culture and our creative repurposing of underutilized parking.”

Crosshairs Garage Races challenges amateur and elite cyclists to compete weekly for points and prizes. Race categories are available for all riding levels including Beginners, Intermediates, and the Petty Cup Race for elites (including a women’s only field).

During the fifth week of the series, a more festive scene dominates with specialty races including Feds versus Contractors, the Cargo/Tandem/Bikeshare Show-Down, and the ever popular Fixed-Gear Finale. Unusual rides, tricked out bicycles, and crazy costumes are common and encouraged for this final Saturday in March.

In addition to the races, the event will feature a spectator section for those who prefer to take in the action from the sidelines, as well as a pop-up bar sponsored by Sierra Nevada serving refreshments and The Big Cheese serving up delicious sandwiches.
