Larger-than-life tops are now spinning at Met Park's community garden

This summer, a vibrant new art installation called Los Trompos is spinning its way into the heart of Met Park's community garden, inviting visitors to experience the magic of a timeless toy reimagined at a monumental scale.

Created by the talented Mexican design duo Esrawe + Cadena, Los Trompos celebrates the universal joy of spinning tops. But these aren’t ordinary tops. Each is a striking, larger-than-life sculpture adorned with colorful fabric woven in traditional Mexican styles. The fabric is stretched across the spinning tops in modules spacious enough to seat several people at once, transforming the sculptures into playful gathering spots.

These interactive tops function both as artistic statements and as rotating platforms. Visitors are encouraged to collaborate and create momentum, setting the sculptures spinning with their combined energy. Through this shared experience, the installation sparks relaxation, social connection, and playful entertainment.

Creators Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena share a vision rooted in everyday inspiration. They draw from history, culture, music, and the urban environment to create works that foster human interaction and emotion. For them, Los Trompos is a “place of color and joy,” designed to connect people and cultures through vibrant expression.

The installation is produced by Creos, a leader in traveling public art, dedicated to transforming spaces into dynamic destinations. Los Trompos will be on display at Met Park's community garden from June 1 through July 27, offering a unique opportunity to engage with art in motion.
