National Landing Celebrates Accessible City Living During Bike Month

One of the most bike-friendly and well-connected areas in the DC region, National Landing invites all to participate in free bike events throughout May.

NATIONAL LANDING, ARLINGTON, VA APRIL 15, 2025 This May, celebrate National Bike Month with National Landing, a leading bike-friendly community in Northern Virginia. The National Landing BID hosts a month-long lineup of free cycling events, including educational workshops, community rides, happy hours, and a film screening of WETA’s Major Taylor documentary, to celebrate people-first transportation.

“We’re proud to champion National Bike Month and continue building on our commitment to a more connected, bike-friendly community,” said Tracy Sayegh Gabriel, President and CEO of the National Landing BID. “This month is all about celebrating movement, sustainability and the local energy that makes National Landing such a dynamic place to be.” 

National Landing is home to more than 12 miles of bike lanes, nearly three miles of protected lanes and connections to the Mount Vernon Trail and Four Mile Run Trail. 

 The National Landing BID is celebrating its robust bike network with engaging and educational events, honoring a community where 75% of residents choose alternative transportation over cars.  

  • Community Bike Ride and Happy Hour: Kick off National Bike Month with a Community Bike Ride and Happy Hour in National Landing. Cyclists of all skill levels are welcome! Following the bike ride, connect with fellow community members at a happy hour at Kaldi’s Social House, featuring complimentary food and beverages. 
    • WHEN: Thursday, May 1 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. 
    • WHERE: Meet at Kaldi’s Social House – 3639 S Glebe Road, Arlington, VA

  • Bike Safety Checks: Get a complimentary bike safety check from Conte’s Bike Shop in National Landing. Mechanics will complete a comprehensive check including handlebars, derailleurs, tires and more. Time slots for registrants are on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • WHEN: Friday, May 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
    • WHERE: Conte’s Bike Shop – 1350 South Eads Street, Arlington, VA

  • Film Screening: WETA’s Major Taylor: Champion of the Race: Hailed as the “LeBron James of Cycling,” don’t miss this inspiring film that retraces the life and legacy of Major Taylor—an American civil rights pioneer who set more than 20 world records in speed cycling during the heart of Jim Crow America. Guests will get a free seat, popcorn and soda. Presented in partnership with WETA.
    • WHEN: Tuesday, May 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
    • WHERE: Alamo Drafthouse Crystal City – 1660 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA

  • Bike to Work Day: On the way to work, stop by National Landing’s pit stop at Water Park to celebrate the 24th annual Bike to Work Day with thousands of local commuters. Take a pit stop for coffee, snacks, music and mingling with fellow community members. Attendees who register for National Landing’s pit stop using the link below will receive the official Bike to Work Day T-shirt, while supplies last.
    • WHEN: Thursday, May 15, from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.
    • WHERE: 1601 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA
    • HOW: Guests can register for National Landing’s Bike to Work Day pit stop here (and select VA Arlington Co – National Landing at Water Park as the location). 
  • Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic: The Armed Forces Cycling Classic is the region’s premier cycling event, open to cycling enthusiasts of all abilities. Races on both days will feature the nation’s top pro men and women, as well as kids’ races.
    • WHEN: Saturday, May 31 starting at 8:00 a.m. and Sunday, June 1 starting at 11:30 a.m.
