Seasons Greetings from The Lodge
By Luke Fichter
National Landing's recent winter festival, The Lodge, brought holiday festivities that united guests and local businesses.
Families gathered for face painting, glitter tattoos, and a chance for kids to chat with Santa. Balloon artists, train rides, and craft stations added to the excitement for the younger guests. A small voice in the crowd was overheard saying, "That train felt like I was in a storybook!"
The event became a haven for pets, featuring a dog bone bar and pet caricature artists. Guests explored the Ski Shop Holiday Market, supporting local vendors and capturing the season's essence.
Adults found sanctuary at the Black Diamond section where the Ugly Sweater Aprés Ski, Summit Bar, and the 'Sleigh All Day Drag' Show sponsored by Freddie's Beach Bar and Restaurant took center stage. For an adventurous twist, axe throwing provided a unique way for adults to embrace the holiday spirit.
In the midst of axe-throwing fun, one axe-thrower declared with a laugh, "Who knew tossing axes in an ugly sweater could be this entertaining? Definitely making it into the holiday memory books!"
The event reached its peak at the Peppermint Mocha Competition. Local coffee shops, including Beauty Champagne and Sugar Boutique, Good Company Doughnuts and Cafe, Rossana, Brij Coffee, Commonwealth Joe, and The Freshman, engaged in a friendly but fierce battle. Fueled by a festive spirit and skilled baristas, the teams passionately competed for the coveted title.
The competition was a testament to the diverse interpretations of the beloved seasonal beverage, allowing attendees to sample each unique creation and cast their votes for their favorite concoctions.
In a thrilling conclusion, Beauty Champagne and Sugar Boutique emerged victorious for the second consecutive year. Zena Polin, the visionary owner of Beauty Champagne and Sugar Boutique, reflected on the inspiration behind the acclaimed beverage, "The drink is based on the rich hot chocolate I used to devour on family vacations to France with my parents. I wanted to share those warm, nostalgic memories with our neighbors in National Landing.” Beauty's Peppermint Mocha Latte will be available in their store through the end of February.
