May 2021 - Letter from Executive Director

Dear National Landing Community,

Not only is the weather beginning to heat up – so is National Landing and all the exciting developments, programs and events that are beginning to take shape for the months ahead! From the Cherry Blossom Festival and our new equity series to our “Love Local” program, retail openings and the upcoming Crystal City metro plaza enhancements project – there’s much to talk about!

We recently celebrated the success and deployment of recovery and relief funds to 30 of our local businesses as part of our “Love Local” program. Our small businesses are essential to the vibrancy and vitality of our community, and we were so grateful for our partnership with RAMW to make this program happen during a time of critical need. Another big thanks goes out to all of our businesses for participating in the program’s promotional effort and our community who showed their love and support for their favorite establishments during “Love Local” Saturday. To view a recap of this program, check out this video that spotlights some of our businesses.

Alongside our partners, we continue to make significant strides forward regarding exciting and transformative projects, including the reimagining of Route 1 and beautification of medians plantings across our district. Amazon’s plans for PenPlace, currently in the County’s review process, are certainly a promising sign for the future of office and underscore the resilience and long-term viability of National Landing as a signature destination for generations to come. At the BID, we’re also preparing for future exciting enhancements at the Crystal City metro plaza, which we see as an important gateway to our area and an opportunity to welcome folks back to transit.

With vaccination distributions on the rise, we feel confident and excited to begin to safely celebrate the return of some favorites as well as new events and programming starting this spring. We recently celebrated the return of our Farmers Market in partnership with FRESHFARM which will be open every Tuesday. Events on the horizon include the return of Movie Nights in the Park, Bike to Work Week, Fridays at the Fountain and new programs such as The Great Inflatable 5K Race, a weekly Saturday artisanal market and more.

This is just the start – and we look forward to sharing some exciting updates and event concepts in the coming weeks. At the BID, it remains our priority to be forward-thinking and continue to identify innovative ways to differentiate ourselves and build community as we position National Landing for its bright future. Follow along @NationalLanding or check out our website for new and exciting announcements.
