September 2022 - Letter from Executive Director

Summer is cooling down and the school year has begun, but fall holds even more moments of joy for us in National Landing! As we say goodbye to warmer days, we reflect on the transformative year-to-date and look forward to all the exciting amenities and events on the horizon in our community.

Our inaugural quarterly market snapshot released last month highlights trends in National Landing's economic profile.

To highlight our highly connected, multi-modal downtown, we are eager to release the next iteration of our Mobility Next Report this month. The report examines how major mobility infrastructure projects underway will transform National Landing into the nation's most connected downtown.

We are happy to see that Arlington’s Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board and Amazon have committed to placing a public art installation commemorating Queen City, a former black community that was uprooted in 1941 to make way for a road network supporting the new Pentagon building. The structure, designed by DC artist Nekisha Durrett, will stand illuminated in Met Park set to reopen next year alongside Amazon HQ2’s Metropolitan Park.

On the entertainment front, we are excited to present more live music with National Landing Unplugged at Virginia Highlands Park. Through October 2, local band Dunlap & Mabe’s string trio will fill the air with their folk tunes for a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Plus, Friday Movies in the Park at Virginia Highlands and NaLa Fridays at the Park at Long Bridge Park continue with more family-friendly films and talented musical acts to wrap up the season.

It has been great to see everyone enjoying weekly activations at NaLa Beach Club! From mermaids and pirates to salsa and dogs, we will close out our eventful summer installation on Wednesday, September 14 with a Sunset Hour of live music, giveaways, and food. We cannot wait for you to see what we have in store as we transition into fall – from Oktoberfest to Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

Continue to keep up with what is on the horizon by following our social channels @NationalLanding or visiting our website.

Best,

Tracy Sayegh Gabriel
